heal.abstract	Data from four cruises in the Gulf of Saronikos, conducted by the National Centre for Marine Research on O/V AEGAEO, during 1995, are evaluated. Five water masses are examined; the Elefsis Bay, the Inner, Central and Outer Gulfs and the Western Basin. It seems that water of slightly lower salinity entering from the open Aegean Sea might disrupt, at some depth intervals, the general tendency of increased salinity with depth in the Saronikos Gulf. The lowest values of temperature and salinity occurred during the winter, and in the same period, the water masses with an exception of the western basin, were depicted on the T-S plots by means of the “water types”.	en
