heal.abstract	Ôhe study was conducted in a network of stations scattered in two regions of the S. Evvoikos Gulf: in the main S. Evvoikos, where trawling is banned, and in the normally fished Petalioi Gulf. A complete qualitative and quantitative analysis along with some environmental measurements revealed significant differentiation between the two areas. Multivariate analysis of the faunistic data such as cluster and MDS plots showed distinct groups corresponding to the fished domain and the unfished one. Superimposition of the plot with environmental parameters defined the type of sediment and depth as the major factors controlling the benthic community structure and composition over the study area. Further investigation based on the ecological identity of the prevalent species revealed that anthropogenic interventions such as trawling play also a significant role in determining the benthic community structure.	en
