heal.abstract | In this paperbasic observations onn the natural biological cycle and the technique of artificial breeding ofPenaeus kerathurus larvae are given. The spawning season was determined to be from the middle of May to the middle of September in Saronikos bay and from the end of May to the end of August in Amvrakikos gulf. The number of valiable eggs was frm 40.000 to 300.000 per gravid female. The optima of temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen were found to be 27 super(o)C, 34 percent, 7,8 and 6.8 ppmm respectively for larvae up to the Post larvae stage. The most suitable species of phytopankton for feeding the Zoea stage were: Skeletonema costatum, Nitzshia closterium, Isochrysis galbana, Tetraselmis spp. and Phaeodactylum tricornutum at the density of 40.000 cells/ml in the rearing tanks. The survival rate was up to the post larva stage 40 to 60 percent. In some other growth experiments P20 were kept in 2.000 litre tanks and in a period of six months, they averaged 7,8gr in body weight and 10cm in body length. | en |
